Large crowd enjoys combined clubs picnic
Early June is an ideal time for picnics, and this one hosted by Sandy and Henry Pettit was a dandy. As do many CKMARC members the Pettits also belong to the Bluegrass chapter of VMCCA, so it made sense to make this a joint event. The large yard soon filled with a wide variety of antique autos, more than many car shows. Everyone enjoyed looking at all the excellent examples of automotive technology spanning over six decades.
The aroma of grilled chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs soon filled the air, drawing the crowd away from the cars toward the food. Also drifting through the air were the sweet sounds of bluegrass music provided by Barry Boggess and his very talented daughter. A beautiful day spent eating delicious home cooked food, listening to live music, looking at some of the nicest old cars in the area, could it get any better than this?
As you would expect most of the conversation revolved around the interesting features of the old cars and the stories involved in bringing these beauties back to life from years of neglect. There was also a little good natured ribbing toward the Model A owners who left their Ford at home to drive a vintage Buick or Chevy. CKMARC founding member John Yates suffered the most teasing when a dead battery required gathering a pit crew to give his classic ‘56 MGA a push start headed for home. All kidding aside this day was a highlight of the year for both car clubs. Many thanks to our gracious hosts, the generous providers of the magnificent side dishes and desserts, the musicians, and everyone who helped make this a wonderful day to remember for a very long time.
