Editor's November Update
The weather forecast kept our participation for the fall
overnight trip to Tennessee smaller than last year but the
weekend turned out great. Memory Lane in Rogersville was
incredible. It was worth the trip just to see the large number
of restorable classics setting in a fence row waiting to be
rescued. Several buildings were full of high dollar collector
cars and memorabilia. A complete diner, service station,
and Ford showroom have been rescued from the local area
and moved to the property. A country store, church, covered
bridge, several homes and other buildings were built on site
to house a huge collection of memorabilia. Many thanks to
John Blair for arranging this visit and to Jeff Rhodes who
set up a Sunday visit to Harold Worley’s antique car
collection.
Our club participation for the Jack Kain Ford Model A
event was fantastic and so was the weather. Lots of visitors
came by to enjoy our old cars and some good food. Thanks
to Jack Kubik for coordinating the event and serving as grill
master.
Only one more event remains on the 2008 CKMARC
calender. Our annual Christmas celebration will be
Saturday, Dec. 13th at Southern Hills Baptist Church, 3408
Clays Mill Road. (Take Man O’ War to Clay’s Mill and turn
toward downtown, the church is on the right.) Lunch is
planned for 12:30 but the doors will be open at 11:00 if you
would like to come early and visit. The club will furnish
the meat, bread, coffee and tea. You’re invited to bring your
favorite side dish or dessert. If you can’t cook bring a
couple of jugs of soft drinks to share with the non-coffee/tea
drinkers.
As usual we will have a silent auction after lunch. Look
around the house and garage for an item you’re tired of
dusting or tripping over that your Model A buddies might
pay a few dollars to own for a while. Maybe you bought
something at the auction last year you haven’t used yet,
bring it back and we’ll resell it. What a deal, you get rid of
something you’re not using, a friend goes home with a great
buy and the club makes a dollar or two in the process.
Everybody wins!!
This will also be a good time to pay your club dues and
save a stamp and envelope. Treasurer Mike Tearney will be
on hand to help you with this process.
President Alan Wickersham will conduct our year end
business meeting. This will include the election of officers
and directors for 2009. You will also have the opportunity to
suggest possible tours for next year. We visited several
interesting places this past year for the first time thanks to
our members suggestions.
Several of our members haven’t been able to get out in
their Model A very much this year, hopefully they will be
able to make this event. This is also a perfect time for new
members to see what a wonderful group of people make up
their club. Come out and enjoy a good meal with friends.
Condolences to Delance Blevins family
Long time club member Oscar Delance Blevins 79,
husband of Geneva Mynatt Blevins, died Tues., Nov. 11,
2008 at his residence. He was a veteran of the Korean
Conflict and a retiree of IBM. His hobbies were antique
cars, woodworking, and traveling. Geneva and family will
be in our thoughts and prayers.
Directory Assistance
We are blessed to have many members in our club who
volunteer to work on projects that benefit all of us. At the
beginning of the year several thought it would be a great
idea to have a directory of members to help us get to know
each other better. Grant Baker volunteered to put this
booklet together for us if members would provide a picture
with their Model A and brief description of how they got
involved with the hobby. A year has now passed and not
many photos have been collected. Help us finish this
project, pick out a picture of you and the old Ford and bring
it to the Christmas dinner. We’ll collect the information we
need and get this project completed this winter.
On a related matter, our club is mighty proud of the way
our members enjoy driving their Model A. Jerry Baker is
collecting the mileage our members have driven in their
Model A this year. He would like to compile it and write an
article to submit to the MARC magazine. Please send him
your best estimate of the number of Model A miles you’ve driven this year. 859-227-0695 |
