Editor's September Update

Usually the update comes after the full edition of the newsletter but for September/ October we will switch things around a little and you will get your color four page edition in October. Not enough rainy days to get the job done will be our excuse. If you have information you would like to share with the club try to get it to us by the end of this month.
The Model A Rodeo was a great success. About a hundred Model A enthusiasts from the three Kentucky clubs had a great time playing with the old cars and swapping stories. It's always nice to meet others who enjoy the same hobby . Congratulations to Rita Kelly, Lonnie Pruitt and Thomas Godbey for bringing home the gold for CKMARC and also congratulations to Frank Rice, Joseph and Brian Howell from the Louisville club on their wins. The trophies were made by the WKY club members from Model A parts. Each one was a unique work of art and will be treasured and displayed with pride. With or without a trophy everyone went home a winner having enjoyed a beautiful day with good friends.
Many thanks to the members of the WKY club who worked for months and traveled a great distance to provide us with a day full of fun activities. We also appreciate the Louisville clubs participation and sharing the expense of the Saturday lunch. Many positive comments were made by our visitors regarding how welcome our local club made them feel. Hopefully in the future we can get together for more activities.
Congratulations to Jerry Baker on a recent Lexington Herald story. Jerry presented our hobby in a very positive manner, making all of us old car nuts look really good. Thanks Jerry, we can use all the help we can get. If you're a praying person say one for Gene Swisher, who is currently recovering in ICU from a recent heart surgery. Nancy says he is doing well and has been a real trooper through this experience. Also remember Ruby Cox and Gail Wickersham as they deal with some difficult health issues. Summer is over and winter's coming, you better take advantage of these last few opportunities to get that Model A out and enjoy it before the snow starts flying.

Model A & T Day in Lincoln Co, Sept 20th
This Saturday the weather will be perfect to relax under the shade at the William Whitley park, enjoy the sounds of antique farm machinery in the distance and the smell of hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill. Bring the kids, there's plenty of space for them to run and play. Although this is not part of the club calendar of activities, come on out and have a good time. Lunch is provided for all the club members . If you want to trailer a car there is plenty of space to unload and park your trailer. Model T Fords are welcome and there are plenty of old Ford friendly roads in the area for a short tour. The William Whitley House State Historic Site is located off highway 150 East, 10 miles from Stanford and 2 miles from Crab Orchard on highway 150. Delmer Dalton will lead a group from Lexington's Turfland Mall at 9:00.
Model A Picnic at Blue Licks State Park, Sept 27th Although we have shared a lot of outdoor meals throughout the summer this is the official club picnic for the year, so you don't want to miss it. This is our first picnic at Blue Licks State Park , there's a lot of history and scenic beauty at this location. Billy and Evelyn Hunt have reserved a large sheltered area just for us. We'll savor a delicious potluck meal and lots of Model A fellowship. Bring your favorite recipe to share (your choice of meat, side dish or dessert). Picnic tables are plentiful but you may prefer to bring a folding chair. Plan on arriving around 10:30 for a good visit before lunch at 12:00. If you're coming from Lexington Jerry Baker is leading a group from North Park McDonald's at 9:00.

Victory Days in Indiana Oct. 3-5
The Model A club of Terre Haute, Indiana invites us to the first annual Victory Day celebration. Free admission to anyone displaying a 1942 or older vehicle in stock condition. There will be paratroop drops, B-17 rides, hanger dance with big band music, USO show, era movies, mock battles and lots more. Profits will go toward building a WWII museum. Reservations have been made for dinner Saturday Night at the PIG & CHIC Restaurant. (Same restaurant as last year) On the return trip home Sunday, we are planning a stop at Worley's in Williamsburg, KY. Thought this might be a good time since we have several new members in the Club that may have not had the opportunity to see his collection of cars. All reservations have been made since January 2008 so no changes have been made to my knowledge. If you need more info let me know.
