| Club
enjoys summer touring in Model A
Summers flying by as usual, hopefully all our members
are getting an opportunity to do a little touring in
the Model A. The club schedule has provided several
great tours with more to come in the months ahead.
Our club was well represented at the 2006 MARC National
Meet with six couples making the long but fun-filled
drive to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mary and Jeff Rhoades
planned routes that included beautiful scenery with
many interesting places to stop and visit along the
way. For those who love old cars this was a dream trip
with stops at the Auburn, Cord, Dusenburg Museum, the
Studebaker Museum, the Gilmore Museum and a tour of
the Ford Rouge factory where the Model A was built
seventy-five years ago and now the F-150 Pickup. We
also visited the James Dean Museum, Greenfield village,
and a restoration of an old Texaco gas station. Mary
did a super job guiding us away from city traffic and
Jeff kept a sharp eye on everything of interest along
the backloads.
Our old cars traveled around 1600 miles
without letting us down. The Michigan weather was
very pleasant and
there was always more to see and do. The host club,
The Grand “A’s” Region should be
proud of the results from all their hard work.
Closer to home the July club tour to
the many historic sites in Madison County was extremely
popular. This
area has played an important role in the development
of our state and country. Allan and Gail Wickersham
guided the group to a reenactment of the pioneer settlement
of Daniel Boone, and after a lunch at Hall’s
on the River, to the hopmeplace of Cassius Marcellus
Clay, one of the key characters leading up to the civil
war. Allan and Gail make wonderful tour guides. They
know a lot about many things, especially concerning
what Model A owners enjoy.
The club directors have made a few
additions and changes for the remaining tours on
the schedule. Read more
about them in the tour sections. There is something
for everyone and if you can’t drive the A, come
anyway. You’ll have a good time exploring this
incredible region with people who treasure your company.
The calendar for 2006 is past the halfway point but
there are several good tours left in the year, do your
best to enjoy some of them. |
